In a bid to control crowd and curtail further spread of the Covid-19 in Akwa Ibom State, the Management of Akwa Ibom Airport development Company limited has placed entry restrictions on escorts and protocol assistants who accompany top Government officials and very important personalities to the terminal.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive officer of the Victor Attah international Airport (VAIA), Mr Uwem Ekanem, reiterated this on Wednesday, while speaking on “politicks Mata” a one hour radio program on Atlantic 104.5FM, Uyo.
Fielding questions from the Presenter, Ekanem while commending Governor Udom Emmanuel for all his efforts in ensuring that Ibom airport is clean for all travelers, reassured all air travelers of safety. He reiterated that all COVID-19 preventive measures have been put in place to guaranty safety.

“No body without face mask is allowed entry into the airport in order to curb Covid-19 in Akwa Ibom State. When passengers arrive, all their luggage are immediately disinfected while being subjected to a compulsory temperature check.
“The airport has been properly marked to ensure that social distancing is maintained. Let me appeal to our VIPs that no escort or protocol Assistant not traveling with them will be allowed to enter the airport terminal.
Anyone bringing a passenger or coming for a pick up must please remain in the car till the expected guest or passenger exits the terminal.
We have Aviation security personnel, so the airport is safe. We have put all measures in place to ensure that our passengers are clean and safe and we promise to sustain and improve on the new standard.” He added.
Reacting to the question bordering on cost, Ekanem who is also the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Aviation development maintained that there is no price hike. “The standard remains the same; you pay less when you book your flight earlier”.
Decrying that electronic meetings have negatively affected Aviation Business, Ekanem however, reiterated that there is no increase in air transport fare in Akwa Ibom State.
